Yosemite Landscape
The summers spent hiking the trails of Yosemite Valley with my two daughters was the inspiration for this painting, It was my hope to capture the light, atmosphere, and texture of this the glacially-polished granite and the trails that wind through Yosemite Valley.
It was a hike in the George woods with my daughter that inspired this five foot painting. I wanted to capture the drama of the damp woods with its vast variety of plants with vibrant colors. My intent was to depict the energy and the atmosphere of the landscape— the smell, the movement and sounds of the winds, by increasing the vibrancy of the colors and the making strong dynamic brush marks on the canvas.
I have always enjoyed the dynamic rolling hills you encounter on the drive to San Luis Obispo. One of those drives inspired this artwork I have included below a video documenting the painting process.
