It was a hike in the George woods with my daughter that inspired this five foot painting. I wanted to capture the drama of the damp woods with its vast variety of plants with vibrant colors. My intent was to depict the energy and the atmosphere of the landscape— the smell, the movement and sounds of the winds, by increasing the vibrancy of the colors and the making strong dynamic brush marks on the canvas.
I have always enjoyed the dynamic rolling hills you encounter on the drive to San Luis Obispo in summer, One of those drives inspired this artwork I created this oil painting of the SanLuis Obispo Hills in 2018. I have included a detail on the left of this 54" X 36" oil painting and below a video of documenting the painting process.process. I hope you enjoy it.
